Post Office job

Well bloggers,
I have both had and lost a government related job with the post office. The hardest part of the job was actually making sure I got everything delivered to the right house.

I suppose the job started when I went in for "classroom" training the Monday after the musical I was in had it's last show. The one thing I hated about the training was the early morning commute to the city. The nice part was when the group went to another area for the training. The part I feared the most was the driving training because I heard that once you hit something, you fail the test. The driving training was in two parts, classroom and behind the wheel. The behind the wheel was on a different day. So, I was a little relieved that I wouldn't have to be behind the wheel until a later date.

Once the "classroom" training was over, it was time for me to report to the station and get some on the job training. I actually never got the training until about a week and a half later. Until then, I was doing some clerical work of bringing numbered hampers back into the station, sorting "3rd bundles" of mail that we usually throw in the trash, and packages into the numbered bundles. When I got the on the job training, everything started to make a little more sense from what I learned in the classroom. The hardest part for me was keeping all the mail from going all over the place. The day after my final training, I was immediately put to work delivering mail. Since I was not driving yet, I was assigned to do pushcart delivery of the area around the station. The thing I liked about the delivery was how the bundles were numbered to make it easier for me.

Another hard part for me was the behind the wheel training. I was so scared because of how the trainer was yelling at me. I don't like to be yelled at because of how it reminds me of when my dad yells at me for making mistakes. But I did pass, so I guess there is something good that came of the experience.

From the moment I got behind the wheel, until the reason I lost the job, I found myself in a lot of different places around the area. I spent a lot of time in old San Mateo and Foster City. The only time I was in my neighborhood was when I was delivering Amazon only packages for Amazon Sunday. The post office has a contract with Amazon for delivering packages on Sundays and holidays. I both liked and hated this because of how the deliveries kept me from being on time to rehearsals and performances for the show I was in with the Belmont Community Players.

The reason I lost the job was because of a hit and run accident. I was driving one of the vehicles, turned around a corner, and hit a parked car. I got out of the vehicle, inspected the damage of the car that I hit, saw that everything was okay, then proceeded on with the delivery. What I failed to do was report that I got into an accident with my supervisor. In the moment, I was thinking that everything would be okay, and nobody would notice. Two days later, my supervisor had me look at the vehicle, and I saw that the vehicle had some scrapes on it's side. I am still feeling the pain of what mistakes can be.
